Each year, the proceeds from FIBA Open support a Basketball For Good initiative elsewhere in the world.
Indonesia’s Basketball For Good program has been selected as a beneficiary of the forthcoming edition.
Indonesia’s rise as a Basketball For Good leader
The resounding success of co-hosting the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 and the subsequent rise in the sport’s popularity inspired FIBA to open its Indonesia office.
Indonesia immediately went to work, launching the Hoops For Health program that uses basketball as a physical activity tool to combat the high incidence of non-communicable diseases in such island regions.
Hoops For Health sessions have since been conducted across several islands that form the vast Indonesian archipelago – positively influencing the youth in these remote areas, while also training coaches and communities to sustain the initiatives for the longer term.
Fundraising to support Hoops For Health
The fundraising support will be used to expand Hoops For Health, while also encouraging other social impact activities.
“Being selected as the fundraising beneficiary of FIBA Open 2026 is incredibly meaningful for us,” said Sarah Nicolina Gagola, Basketball For Good Manager at FIBA Indonesia. "With this support from the FIBA Open 2026, we will have greater capacity to strengthen and expand our programs, particularly in underserved areas in Indonesia where access to structured sports development opportunities remains limited."
The Indonesia team will be present in Switzerland during the FIBA Open 2026, showcasing their accomplishments before the wider basketball community.
“It is an opportunity to highlight the potential of basketball development in Southeast Asia and to build stronger collaborations with organizations, partners, and individuals who believe in the power of sport for social change,” Gagola said, emphasizing the two-way learning from such exchanges.
It is with a profound sense of gratitude and renewed intent that Indonesia’s Basketball For Good efforts will continue into the future.
The 12th FIBA Open will be held on 20-21 June 2026 at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball in Mies, Switzerland.
